Seismic Activity
That’s the latest theme of the reading/writing series Bang Out. Bang Out is 97% less dirty than it sounds, unfortunately. Basically they pick a theme, you write something (poem, fiction, non-fiction) 1000 words or less, if its ok, they let you read it. Out loud. To people. Why am I describing it to you? Here is a website. So yes, the current theme is “Seismic Activity”...

I’m pretty comfortable working for a death penalty appellate defense shop regardless, but articles like this provide a little extra motivation (and provide a handy dodge for those who wonder how I can represent bad guys)

On Cocktails
My Mom once told me that when those who drink mature, they either become Gin people or Whiskey people.
.
After some initial experimentation with Tequila, Rum, Natural Ice, and even Brass Monkeys, it turns out I’m a Whiskey person. I went to Bourbon & Branch last night. It was the first time I’ve been, having only lived in San Francisco for five years. If I’m somehow not the last...

Baseline Scenario is impressively good at explaining and discussing aspects of our current economic situation (poor) to a non-financially literate audience(read: liberal arts idiots like me). A Cost/Benefit Analysis of Execution *updated*
There are a lot of arguments for doing away with the death penalty, but most of them are primarily moral arguments and are thus tinged with some measure of subjectivity. It’s hard to have a non-heated and productive discussion about issues that involve subjective analysis (see: abortion) because everyone brings their own beliefs to the discussion, and even if you try to remain open-minded and...

I’m going to repost this until I stop being lazy and figure out how to add some sort of blogroll on here (if possible?)
U.S. 2 - Spain 0
I don’t watch much soccer. It’s a sport, like hockey and baseball, that is much more fun live then on tv (all sports, save boxing, wrestling,or any type of fighting preceded by a superlative, are more fun to play then watch).
So it may just be the small sample size talking, but the most exciting game I’ve watched to date was the game we played Italy, the eventual champs, to a...

Jobs, Careers, Lifepaths
THAT is a melodramatic title. But I’m feeling a little dramatic. Or panicked. I suppose I need to take a deep breath because my “problem” is one that, in this economy, approximately 94.3% of the population would love to have: I might be getting a job offer on Friday. I stress might.
.
This is, of course, a great thing. Setting aside the fact my current position at the court...
